Haematology is the branch of medicine that deals with the study, diagnosis and treatment of blood diseases and diseases of the bone marrow.
Haematologists deal with the diagnosis and management of diseases of the blood and of cancers, including chemotherapy.

Blood is a life-maintaining fluid. If the blood falters, the entire body system will gradually falter as well. Leukaemia, a cancer of the blood or the bone marrow, is the most common cancer affecting children and adolescents. That being said, adults are not spared either. In 2000, approximately 256,000 children and adults around the world developed some form of leukaemia, and 209,000 died from it.
Treating Leukaemia and Other Blood Diseases
Leukaemia can be treated with anthracycline-based chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants. Sufferers of this disease must consult a haemotologist immediately. Leukaemia and other forms of blood diseases are present in various forms and a haematologist will be able to effectively guide you along the treatment procedures once a diagnosis is determined.
